Maps with no API key
Sharp vector maps from OpenFreeMap out of the box in five styles, or classic tiles: topographic, cycling, public transport and satellite. Add a key for Google Maps, MapTiler, Thunderforest or Mapbox if you prefer.
A visual map builder
Search an address or click the map to add a place, drag to move it, and write popups with a title, formatted text, photo, phone and link. Start from a template and preview on desktop, tablet and phone.
Categories, shapes and tracks

Questions, answered
Do I need a Google Maps API key?
No. Maps and address search work without any key, using free OpenStreetMap-based vector maps from OpenFreeMap. A key is only needed if you want Google's own map, or MapTiler, Thunderforest or Mapbox styles.
Is the free plugin limited?
No. Maps, places, locations, the store locator and all 302 region maps are free, with no MatrixMap branding on your maps. A single map can hold up to 5,000 places and clusters them automatically.
Do I need the free plugin to use Pro?
Yes. MatrixMap on WordPress.org is the base and stays free; MatrixMap Pro is a separate plugin that adds its features to the same MatrixMap screens.
Can I switch from another map or store locator plugin?
Yes. MatrixMap imports maps from WP Go Maps, MapPress, WP Maps and Interactive Geo Maps (MapGeo), and stores from WP Store Locator and Agile Store Locator. It only reads their data, and once the old plugin is deactivated its shortcodes and blocks show the MatrixMap version. Leaflet Map shortcodes and WP Map Block blocks can be shown too.
Is MatrixMap GDPR-friendly?
MatrixMap sets no cookies and stores no visitor data. Map tiles come from an outside server, so with a consent plugin maps wait for consent, or you can make every map click-to-load. Region maps use no outside services at all. Pro's analytics stay off until you switch them on, and keep only anonymous daily totals with search areas rounded to about 11 km: no cookies and no IP addresses.
How does "near me" work?
When a visitor taps "Use my location", the browser asks for permission and the position is sent to your own site only to find the nearest locations; it is not stored. Behind a CDN that sends the visitor's city, the locator can start there without asking. Pro adds a local IP database for hosts without such a CDN.
Does Pro work with page caching?
Yes. Geo-targeted content and the Nearest location block check the visitor's location from an uncached endpoint, so cached pages still show the right content. Note that geo-targeted content is hidden in the browser, so it is not a way to protect private content.
What happens when my Pro licence ends?
Pro keeps working, and so do all your maps. You stop receiving one-click updates and support until you renew. Pro features never check the licence.
What is the difference between yearly and lifetime?
Yearly plans renew each year and can be cancelled any time. Lifetime plans are paid once and include updates and support for life. You can upgrade by paying only the difference.
